12.14 Solicitation and Distribution

All of us get asked from time to time to buy something or donate to support some type of cause, organization or fundraiser.

Even though most of these projects are worthwhile causes, they can disrupt normal University operations and put unnecessary pressure on employees. In the interest of running an orderly and efficient operation, it is necessary to make certain restrictions on soliciting employees and distributing material to them while they are on university property.

Solicitation or distribution of any kind by non-employees on the University campuses is always prohibited.

To protect all employees from unnecessary interruptions and annoyances, it is our policy to prohibit the distribution of literature in work areas and to prohibit the solicitation and distribution of literature during employees’ working hours. This policy also applies to solicitation by electronic means.

Nothing in this section prohibits employees from discussing terms and conditions of employment.
