Satisfactory Clinical Progress

The Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI) for PTAs will be utilized to track the student’s progress throughout the final full-time clinical practicum (PHT 2942L). By midterm, at the end of the first full-time experience, the student should be rated no less than Advanced Intermediate on the CPI in 10 out of 14 criteria. By completion of the course at the end of the second full-time experience, the student is expected to be rated at Entry-Level in 14 out of 14 criteria on the CPI.

If a student does not receive an “Entry-Level” designation by the CI for a specific criteria or on more than one criteria, the DCE will review the situation and determine if the student meets “Entry-Level” expectations. This decision will be based on the following criteria:

  • Clinical setting (acute setting is a more challenging setting than OP for a PTA student)
  • Expectations for the clinical experience and CI (PT vs PTA)
  • Progression of performance from mid-experience to final evaluation (including progression from Practicum 2)
  • Specific comments in the CPI
  • Interview with CI and student as needed for clarification
