Clinical Practicums

The first clinical practicum will be a part-time placement integrated into the 4th semester of the program prior to the terminal full-time clinical practicum. During the part-time practicum, students will participate in small groups led by program faculty. This clinical experience will be for 5 hours per week for 14 weeks of the 4th semester.

The final or terminal clinical practicum includes two full-time clinical experiences which will occur during the 5th semester of the program and will be 40 hours per week for a period of 7 weeks each. The student is required to participate in two full-time clinical experiences treating patients across the lifespan with a variety of conditions from simple to complex. The DCE will attempt to place each student in one outpatient and one inpatient setting (i.e. SNF, LTC, Acute Care, Inpatient Rehab, etc.). However, if this is not possible, the DCE will ensure the students are placed in two settings that provide a variety of clinical environments, patient diagnoses and complexities essential for the student to gain entry-level skills.
