Clinical Practicum Placement Procedure

Part-time Clinical Practicum 1 (PHT 1801L): The students are randomly assigned to small groups for the first practicum and remain in those groups throughout the semester. Students will be notified which facility to report to each week no later than the last day of their 3rd semester. Students will also be notified in a timely manner if for any reason, the facility changes. This part-time clinical practicum will be held one to two times per week for a total of 5 hours per week. Exact days and hours to be determined based on the availability of the facility.

Full-time Clinical Practicum 2 (PHT 2942L): The students will be provided the list of all available facilities offering clinical slots with which the program has executed written contracts. The students may also review the Clinical Facility Information Document (CFID) to learn more about each facility.

  • Two months prior to the start of PHT 2942L, the students will receive a list of all available facilities with whom the program has executed written contracts, and who have designated slots available to our students.
  • Six weeks prior to the start of PHT 2942L, students will submit their Site Selections list and the DCE will meet with each student to discuss their selections (one outpatient list and one inpatient list).
  • All efforts will be made to place students in their top selections. However, if the number of slots is not sufficient, the DCE will use a lottery system to determine student placement. The DCE, along with the PD, have the right to place students at a facility that best matches with each student, even if that facility is not on the student’s preferred list.
  • The facilities and students will be notified of student placements no less than six weeks prior to the start of PHT 2942L.

*The DCE reserves the ultimate authority to confirm appropriateness of the placement of each student.
