Responsibilities of the Student

  • Have a good understanding and be able to demonstrate competency in clinical skills learned during lab practice, lab skills checklists, lab practical testing, and have a fully completed Lab Skills Competency Checklist.
  • In a timely manner, complete all items as required by the clinical site such as background check, immunization records, current CPR/BLS certification, OSHA, HIPAA, Domestic Violence, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  • In a timely manner, provide all required items as required by the clinical site (above) to the DCE as well as keep organized records of their own.
  • Comply with HIPAA guidelines and adhere to facility policies and procedures including patient privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
  • Contact the SCCE or CI of their assigned clinical site one week prior to start date to inquire on actual hours, dress code, parking, site orientation requirements, etc.
  • Arrange reliable transportation to and from the clinical site.
  • Adhere to the Florida National University code of conduct at all times.
  • Wear Student ID at all times to indicate status as a student.
  • Introduce themselves as a student PTA, obtain consent from the patient to provide care and acknowledge the patient’s right to refuse care.
  • Complete student self-evaluation using the Clinical Performance Instrument and submit to the DCE.
