Program Curriculum
The PTA program at Florida National University is a 1+1 curriculum that is completed in no more than 5 semesters or 80 weeks of full time study. Students will complete the general courses required for an associate’s degree before applying to the PTA program.
The curriculum is designed to progress students from foundational didactic material to hands-on laboratory experiences in preparation for applying learned Physical Therapy concepts to real patients and clinical scenarios during the three clinical rotations.
General Education Courses
Courses required by the Institution and the state for the associate of science degree and those courses required as prerequisites for admission to and graduation from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. The courses serve as the groundwork for preparing the student for understanding and application of the program specific courses.
Core Courses
Courses required for the academic preparation of the Physical Therapist Assistant, including concepts and principles that support the development of the behaviors and skills necessary for the student to function in the capacity of a competent PTA. The coursework is presented in both lecture and laboratory formats.
Clinical Education
Students will be assigned to clinical facilities for supervised clinical experiences in a physical therapy setting under the direction of qualified clinical facility staff. The clinical education component of the curriculum is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to utilize the knowledge, behaviors, and skills developed within the academic component of the curriculum.
