Components of the Clinical Practicum
An effective clinical experience should include:
- A variety of environments that involve multi-disciplinary settings & multi-cultural colleagues & a wide variety of patients.
- The opportunity for the student to apply their practical skills with a “hands on” approach to actual patients.
- Interaction with the CI that allows the student to apply their didactic knowledge and skills while experiencing how it translates into the clinic setting.
- Emphasis and understanding of working under the supervision of a Physical Therapist and the PT/PTA relationship.
- Exposure to effective implementation of physical therapy interventions that fall within the scope of work of the PTA.
- Sharpen interpersonal and effective communication skills needed to function as a healthcare provider and team member.
- Consultation with the CI, SCCE and DCE to identify any needs for improvement or student’s areas of interest that may be expanded upon.
