19.4 Outside Employment

All full-time employees of the University are expected to devote their full energies to the work of the University. Outside employment should not compete or conflict with the activities of FNU, involve any use of university equipment, supplies, or facilities. Outside employment that constitutes a conflict of interest is prohibited.

All employees, including part-time and probationary employees, must notify Human Resources of any regular full-time, part-time, or temporary employment outside of FNU before engaging in any outside employment.

Outside employment is considered performance of any service for an employer other than FNU, before, during or after an employee’s regular working hours or while the employee is out on approved leave. FNU encourages employees to participate in worthwhile civic, social, educational, and charitable organizations and activities, so long as it does not create a conflict of interest.

You may hold an outside job if you meet the performance standards of your job with FNU. All employees will be judged by the same performance standards and will be subject to FNU’s scheduling demands, regardless of any existing outside work requirements.

If FNU determines that your outside work interferes with performance or the ability to meet the requirements of FNU as they are modified from time to time, you may be asked to terminate the outside employment if you wish to remain with FNU.

You may not receive any income or material gain from individuals outside FNU for materials produced or services rendered while performing your job at FNU.
