Rights and Privileges of Volunteers or Human Subjects

During patient-simulated laboratory exams, the volunteers, or Human Subjects, are provided a case which to follow when providing “patient information” such as patient name, diagnosis, background information, pain levels and locations, etc. At no time are the volunteers or human subjects expected to provide any personal or protected health information to the students or the program. Any personal or protected information provided by the volunteer or human subject during the patient-simulated lab exam outside of the sample case will be held in strict confidentiality by the student and program.

The student providing the simulated intervention will inform the Human Subject of any precautions and contraindications associated with the intervention and will provide the opportunity to decline participation. The Human Subject reserves the right to decline participation in any laboratory session, skills check or lab exam, due to a medical or physical condition that may be negatively affected by their participation. The student (or lab volunteer) must inform the instructor in advance so appropriate accommodations or actions can be made to prevent the disruption of practical learning and testing.
