Pregnant Students

Pregnant students must notify the Program Director as soon as possible due to some physical therapy procedures posing a risk to the fetus. The student may continue in the program with the written approval of the student’s attending obstetrician. The attending obstetrician will be asked to submit a statement to the University indicating the student’s expected date of confinement, the student’s limitations (if any), and the length of time the student may continue in the program (i.e., attending scheduled classes and clinical rotations). In the event problems arise concerning the student’s ability to perform physical therapy procedures in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings, which do not pose a risk to the fetus, the Program Director in consultation with the student’s obstetrician, will determine whether the student may remain in the program. In the event of “unique and extenuating” circumstances related to the pregnancy or birth, possible alternative options for completing the course(s) will be discussed by the Program Director and Allied Health Division Head and presented to the student. The student may also choose to voluntarily withdraw from the program, at which time the SPNE, LOA and re-enrollment/readmission policies of FNU will apply. Please refer to University Catalog for details.
