Repeating Courses
The US Department of Education has passed a regulation impacting repeated courses. The regulation states that students may only receive federal student aid for ONE repetition of a previously passed course.
Students may retake courses at Florida National University to improve their overall GPA if the original grade was a “B” or lower. A course that has been passed previously cannot be retaken more than once with federal student aid. Moreover, courses with a grade of “A” are not eligible for a second attempt using federal student aid.
The credit is given for the last grade earned when repeating a course. Repeated courses will appear on the student‘s transcript. The first attempt will also be shown, but the cumulative grade point average will be computed on the basis of the last attempt only. In the case of repeating a course to improve the GPA, tuition fees will be entirely the student‘s responsibility.
In evaluating satisfactory academic progress, in addition to the minimum credits earned and grade point average, repeated courses will be counted as credits attempted. When successfully completed, they will count as credits earned. Students should consult the Financial Aid office if they are considering repeating a course.
