Financial Aid Eligibility

To receive federal student aid at Florida National University, students must meet the basic eligibility criteria established by the U.S. Department of Education. These requirements apply to most Title IV financial aid programs, including Pell Grants, Direct Loans, and Federal Work-Study.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for federal student aid, students must:

  • Demonstrate financial need, if required (for example, for need-based programs like the Federal Pell Grant or subsidized loans).
  • Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.

  • Have a valid Social Security number, except for students from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau.
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program at Florida National University.
  • Be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for Direct Loan Program funds.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by Florida National University's Financial Aid SAP policy. (INSERT POLICY LINK)
  • Sign the certification statement on the FAFSA®, confirming that:
    • You are not in default on a federal student loan,
    • You do not owe money on a federal grant overpayment, and
    • You will use federal student aid only for educational purposes.
  • Show you are qualified to obtain a post-secondary education by meeting one of the following:
    • Have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (such as a GED® certificate),
    • Complete high school education in a homeschool setting approved under state law.
