FNU Employee Tuition Waiver Policy
FNU values education and provides eligible full-time employees who have completed six (6) months of continuous employment with Employee Tuition Waivers. This benefit extends to employees’ spouses and children.
Eligible employees, spouses, and children on approved Tuition Waivers may enroll in (and take) courses if, and only if, courses have paying students enrolled. FNU reserves the right to cancel scheduled courses if paying student enrollment is low.
To ensure the sustainability of our programs, priority is given to paying students when processing tuition waiver requests.
- A tuition waiver for an employee will be approved once the class has a minimum enrollment of 8 paying students.
- For every additional 5 paying students enrolled, 1 additional tuition waiver may be granted.
This policy is designed to balance accessibility for employees while maintaining the viability of our courses.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a full-time employee on the day before classes begin for the semester and continue to be employed full-time for the entire semester.
- Employees must have completed six months of full-time, continuous, satisfactory, and permanent service with Florida National University.
- Employees' performance must be at the "Achieves" or "Satisfactory" level and in good standing on the day before classes begin.
- Employee's employment record must be discipline free for a minimum of six (6) months prior to first day of classes.
- Enrollment is contingent upon supervisory approval and verification of eligibility status.
- Participation in the program is to be conducted on the employee's own time. Employees are encouraged to take classes during off-duty hours.
Other Important Requirements:
- Eligible employees, spouses, and children may enroll for up to 2 courses of undergraduate instruction per term (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer).
- FNU provides the Employee Tuition Waiver Program in part as a means to assist its employees and their eligible relatives in obtaining an education without the need to incur loan debt. In the event the recipient obtains federal student loans (also known as Title IV loans or Direct Loans including PLUS Loans) or private educational loans in connection with their enrollment at FNU, the tuition waiver will be rescinded, and the recipient will be obligated to pay all tuition and fee charges associated with their enrollment. This does not prevent a recipient from receiving Federal Pell Grants or other forms of aid that do not have to be repaid.
- Eligible employees, spouses, and children receiving this Tuition Waiver are still responsible for the following: 1. textbooks; 2. course supplies; 3. all miscellaneous fees normally charged (CPR seminars, entrance exams, etc.); and 4. Graduation fees.
- It should be understood that eligible employees, spouses, and children will be enrolled in the course or program only if there is an available opening after all tuition paying students have been accepted.
- Programs, due to their nature, are not eligible for this tuition waiver as determined by FNU. Ineligible programs include but are not limited to:
- Nursing
- Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
- Radiology Technology
- Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Technology
- Respiratory Therapy
- All Graduate programs are excluded from the Tuition Waiver
- Additionally, seminars for specific medical programs are also not eligible for the Employee Tuition Waiver
- Only one Tuition Waiver will be awarded for any program which enrolls students in clusters.
- Eligible employees, spouses, and children must apply for admission and register for classes. Submitting an application for the Employee Educational Tuition Waiver does not constitute applying for admission or registering for classes.
- Eligible employees, spouses, and children must meet the prevailing admission requirements and will be subject to all prevailing academic policies.
- Student will not be enrolled until the entire program requirements are completed.
- Failure to meet SAP standards will result in the loss of Tuition Waiver. You may file a petition if you lose eligibility. For a step by step guide, view the Standards of Academic Progress Appeal Guide.
- Students who are already enrolled in a program that qualifies for a tuition waiver and subsequently become full-time employees must fulfill the following requirements:
- Satisfy all eligibility criteria.
- Successfully complete the semester in which they are currently enrolled.
- Clearance from Financial Aid.
- If an employee voluntarily (as determined by Florida National University) leaves Florida National University within one year of the employee, spouse, and or children having completed the course/program on their last day of attendance, he or she will become responsible for all tuition and fee amounts waived by FNU. The employee must agree to this, and to withholding of/deductions from pay, in writing in order to be eligible to participate in this Program. For the purposes of this program, terminations for Cause, as deemed so by Florida National University or as defined in any applicable policy or handbook, are defined as voluntary.
- Employee, spouse, and/or children can continue to attend courses and remain in any program at Florida National University after the employee’s voluntary departure but must pay all tuition and fees.
