Audit (AU)
Audit (AU) Policy
Active students may apply to audit a course for which zero credit or recognition will be granted. Typically, a student will only audit a class passed with a satisfactory grade with the purpose of reviewing the material. Unless waived by the President, full tuition and all applicable fees must be paid to audit a course.
To audit a course, students must submit a request to Registrar or Academic Advising to determine availability. Auditing is permitted strictly on a space-available basis. Priority registration will be given to students enrolling for credit. Once a determination has been made that a space is available, the written approval from the course instructor, the Division Head, and the VPAA is required. The Campus Dean will then have the final decision and must grant permission for the student to audit the course.
Audit registrations will not be processed until all credit-bearing students have been accommodated. Because students do not receive credits, audited courses do not impact enrollment status (part-time/full-time) nor count toward continuous enrollment requirements.
A grade of “AU” (Audit) will appear on the student’s transcript for any audited course. This grade has no effect on attempted credits, earned credits, or GPA.
Once a course has begun, audit status cannot be changed to letter grade status or vice versa. To receive credit and a letter grade, or to attempt to improve a prior letter grade, the course must be retaken with full tuition and applicable fees paid. Audited courses do not satisfy degree or certificate requirements, do not substitute for a previous unsatisfactory grade, and are intended for enrichment or review purposes only. Financial aid does not apply to audited courses, and will not count toward financial aid eligibility or disbursement.
