Experiential Learning Credits
Experiential Learning Credit Policy
Florida National University (FNU) recognizes that learning can occur outside traditional academic settings. Experiential learning credits may be awarded to satisfy specific course requirements when a student demonstrates mastery of relevant learning outcomes.
- Transcript Notation: Approved experiential learning credits will appear on the student’s official transcript and will indicate that a degree requirement has been fulfilled.
- Credit Limits: Students may earn up to fifteen (15) credits through experiential learning. However, these credits must not exceed 30% of the total credits awarded through the Evaluation of Prior Learning (EPL) process.
- Credit Designation: Experiential learning credits will be recorded with the notation “TC” and will include the equivalent course code and title.
- Assessment Criteria: Credit is awarded based on clearly measurable course and student learning outcomes. These outcomes must be documented and presented through a comprehensive portfolio, which is subject to academic review.
- Capstone courses (or other culminating academic activities) are integrative academic experiences designed to be completed within the structured curriculum of a degree program. As such, they are not eligible for credit through the Experiential Learning Credit Policy and must be completed through traditional academic enrollment at FNU.
